All I have now is a port that is flush with the deck, there is no pipe rising above to notch. Looks like a cover for a rather large fill pipe, not an anchor hatch. Further the cover for the port is snaps in, not so easy to remove.

Ahhh... I see. Maybe make an adaptor plate identical to your existing pattern out of Starboard, UHMW plastic, or Bronze, SS , or Brass plate then bolt the new hawse pipe to it. Typical boat work scenario!

Yes, I am learning that lesson. I will come up with a more permanent solution over the winter. The cheap cowl vent will be good enough for now, I will likely only use it once or twice.
