CQR / B 14 3/4 Anchor. What is it?

Hello. I have this anchor and I am not sure what it is or the material it is made out of. Any help identifying and what it is worth would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As I recall the CQRs marked with fractional weights were cast rather than forged.

I looks like there's a bend in the stock and it is clearly an old CQR. Most sailors are dumping their CQRs for new generation anchors such as the Spade or Mantus. You might find some interest from somebody who wants a cheap back up anchor in case they lose their primary.

Try Craigslist and I'm guessing you might get 50 bucks for it but who knows?

I believe it's cast steel but I don't know the alloy. In my experience, the holding power of a CQR isn't all that great, so the material doesn't matter much.

in the old days Simpson Lawrence marked the cheaper cast versions of the CQR with weights slightly less less than those of the forged versions and I believe called them type 'B' At least these are likely to be a more faithful shape copy than a typical Chinese Knock-off, but they will not have the same strength as the forged ( as in metal forging not counterfeiting) version.

Looks like a CQR but the number is odd. Genuine CQR's had weight marked in lbs and I don't know what the B stands for. Comments are right, these have gone 'out of fashion' now so probably not very salable. Don't ask if it works unless you want a multi-page 'debate' - again! If it is 14lbs use it for the dingy, 14kg and might be a useful kedge. would never use anything under 35lbs on the bow of ANY boat. Don't worry about the bend, probably got caught under a rock but wont affect the strength. CQR's are designed for medium/soft bottems, lighter wt's not so good on hard sand. Some people say they don't reset well but never had one drag so haven't tried it!

Actually looking at the pic again there are several things that look odd. The attachment point at the front dosn't look cast and the main ring is to big. That plus the bend (indicates maybe a soft alloy) make me think it is a cast copy not a forged genuine one. In which case don't use it for anything critical.

There are so many things wrong with that anchor that it would be unethical to fob it off on anyone unaware. If someone approaches you and says "I fully understand anchors and anchoring, and I know what I am looking at and want to offer you money", then go ahead and sell it.

Otherwise, toss it and do many people a favor.

I believe that the original CQR anchor is marked with “Made in Scotland”.

Walk into Bacon Sails in Annapolis and they have so many used CQRs for sale they are almost giving them away.

The CQR is actually a relatively effective anchor in some places, like the northeast US. It certainly has more value up there than down south.

While the market is different everywhere, I don't think it's worth much. Maybe $50 as someone suggested.
