Chainpipe size opinions?

I am installing a manual windlass that does not have an integral chainpipe. Windlass is mounted in a covered anchor well with a (currently) fairly small diameter drain. Trying to decide between a 2" or 3" opening chainpipe. Both have a 1-1/4" high lip. Smaller would be a smaller hole in the boat and would perhaps allow in less water under adverse conditions. I anticipate capping it for passages either way. Bigger would be less likely to jam the chain, but more flooding potential. I am leaning towards bigger, but interested in others' opinions.

I doubt that there would be much difference in flooding if the pipe is capped. However, if you have any issues with chain piles needing to be knocked down, the larger hole will make it easier to stick something in for that purpose.
