Cali locals with moorings
Hey just curious about what harbors in California have mooring fields. I know sandiego does but you'd have to bribe the pope to get one. sf? Monterey? Any NoCal spots?

Re: Cali locals with moorings
Newport beach has so many that you almost always get one. One reason is they will tow your boat if you don't pay on time!! SF Bay has some at Angel Island. Seems like there were some others..?

Monterey has two fields, both with availability. Check the city site.

Re: Cali locals with moorings
What are you looking for? There is an anchorage in Pillar Point Harbor. Angel Island and other places in the bay discourage long term mooring. Richardson Bay has a liveaboard community.

Re: Cali locals with moorings
san diego moorings donot need papal blessing--he shuns em..hahaha more the better--- see vanessa in mooring office--forgot the number which used to be in my brain ha ha ha request a temp ball for until you can get a permanent one. perm balls are tough to get and have wait list. temp is easy--only twice the price monthly which was low.

But the temp ones are really temp and you'd get kicked off after a period of time right?

To answer your question I am kicking around the idea of living aboard out there again. I'm gonna be in a family way soon and am looking at bigger boats that might require loan payment. Between that, slip fees, and maintenance I'd be breaking the bank so I am looking at moorings.
What about out on Catalina? I know Avalon Moorings are grandfathered in but what about Two Harbors?

Re: Cali locals with moorings
if 5 yrs is really temp.....
as long as you wait on a waitinglist and keep vontact with vanessa you are good. ifxa permanent ball comes up after you apply forvone tgen you are double golden.
temp is not only a couple of months.
i held a temp vall for a few years beforevi left in 2011 march.

Big however: they are in an open anchorage and a good 20 minute dinghy ride from the harbor. In stormy weather, they welcome their moored boats into the harbor.
Howsomever, in Ventura and Channel Islands (Oxnard) slips are available, cheap (for Cali), and they like liveaboards. Yes, repeat: they like liveaboards. In fact, one marina in Ventura was specifically designed for liveaboards and is 50% so occupied.
Both V and CIH are very convenient to schools, shopping, and such important amenities of "family life" ashore.

Of course, we won't mention the surfing and kite surfing beach across the channel, or the fishing. Or the Channel Islands for cruising and diving. and fishing. and surfing.
Oh, and in Nor Cal, the Delta will be your friend. Fresh water, tons of marinas, and even anchorages.
