I am in a mild dilemma here as well
PWB Grade L Galvanised from the marine supplier is $13/metre
Rigtech Grade L Galvanised from the chain, crane and sling company is $5/metre
Both meet AS2321 standards
Thats a difference in price worth investigating further.

a whil ein back, port of san diego used chinese chain. one easter siunday night at 0200, the winds were above 65mph (that is where his anemometer broke) when a force 50 broke away from its mooring because of a snapped chain link. that link had faulty weld as well as bad galvanization--uneven and missing spots. when that force 50 broke looose, it took out 5 other boats.
now-- do you want to use china chain?? i dont.

How do you know it was chinese chain?
It broke therefore it was, or do you know it is for certain?

I dont care where the chain comes from as long as it works
The previous post regarding the rusty US ACCO chain would seem to show that "made in the US of A" is no guarantee of quality.
I look around my house at present and I would be hard pressed to find anything here that was not made in china
Samsung LCD TV
Panasonic Camera
Microsoft keyboard
Acer mouse
LG refrigerator
etc etc etc
All working perfectly well for many many many years

i know because i have friends who installed it and i saw the markings. i also am friend of the man whose force 50 broke loose --and i saw the broken link. so . what is your pertinent question, sir?
CHINESE CHINE DOES NOT WORK.
ye wanna ask the port of san diego? you will not get an answer. i know these things i know because i SAW the stuff with my own eyes in the hands of the man whose boat was the breakaway boat. by the way-- he won in court also. is on record. look it up-date of incident-- easter sunday 1999 at 0200. is still known as the china chain incident.
i will never use china chain.
the galvanization at the weld was faulty and the weld was not complete.
i will NEVER forget the sight of that broken link.

I just had dinner with a friend whose boat was moored, with confirmed Chinese chain, in a bay on the north shore of Nova Scotia near New Glasgow. Hurricane/Tropical Storm Earl passed nearly over head subjecting the boat to some very significant wind and waves. The Chinese chain parted and the boat went aground.
In the US, I would only use, and only recommend, ACCO chain.

Sorry, couldnt find anything
But I don't doubt that on occasion, products are faulty, after all, the manufacturing is supervised by humans
Just look above at the faulty US ACCO chain as an example of faults.
Seems the US manufacturers are not the super beings you would have us believe.

And there's the rub. How can you tell good chain from bad? Anecdotes about breaking chain are fun but poor science. I rarely hear one that includes the size and grade of the chain that parted, only the country of origin and these have included China, Australia and the USA. If the crane guys are using it I would be tempted, they don't like things falling on their heads any more than we like our boats on the beach.

See that beautiful $1000 dollar paint job in my avatar, it doesn't exist anymore. Brand new 7/16" chain put on two days before Igor, parted a foot below the bow roller, and put Bluestocking on the rocks.
The stretched broken link stayed in the fire hose chafe gear (which by the way, survived 16hrs of up to 90knots). The weld had penetrated only about 20% of the contact faces of the rod.
Boat up in the yard now, insurance co. may have to sort this out with my chandler.
I think I know where the chain came from.
