Re: Alberg 30 ground tackle upgrade help!

Nomadica I have to agree with the new anchor camp

I realy believe that a new generation anchor like 35lbs Rocna, Mantus, Manson Supreme or a Spade will solve your problems

Re: Alberg 30 ground tackle upgrade help!

In turn, I've loved my CQR's, Bruce, and Delta (and many Danforth's) I learned the habits of each and how to get the most from them. They are all good anchors.

But for me, none of the above are in the same league as a new generation anchor - I've used the Manson Supreme, galvanized Spade, Rocna and Ultra. It is most unusual to find anyone who has used one of the new anchors who would consider going back.

The primary benefit of the new anchors is not just holding strength. The old anchors could be made to hold very well with some skill and a few tries in difficult bottoms - especially a big CQR. The advantage of the new anchors is that - in my experience - they always reset with no apparent movement after a wind or current change (assuming 5-1+ scope). Unless I'm worried about swinging into someone or something, I no longer use two anchors even in areas with swift tidal currents.

Your Alberg 30 (lovely boat) also doesn't particularly like a lot of weight in the bow. You'll be drier and more comfortable if you keep the bow light.
