Wheelpilot works/doesn't

Hi All, I have been having some probs with my Navico wheelpilot (now Simrad, I believe). It works each time it is switched on for 15-20 secs and then just dies. I've checked the power connections and they are ok. In the first 15 seconds every function is operable and the unit will respond to port and starboard commands, but even though the L.E.D.s on the unit remain lighting, the rest then goes dead and it will not accept and course changing commands. Just thought I'd ask if anybody out there have had similar problems, before I start stripping it down . . .??
