Wheel Pilot Question

Hey everybody,

I have an Autohelm 4000 wheel pilot and the actual wheel drive portion of it is giving me problems. Can I just replace it with a newer version - like from a Raymarine ST4000, an SPX 5 or even the brand new EV100 and still keep my control head?

It seems to me that all that the wheel drive unit is is a motor attached to the wheel with a two-wire power cable that reverses polarity to reverse the motor. It doesn't look like the basics of that unit has really changed in 25 or 30 years (it's just gotten more sturdy).

I'd appreciate your thoughts...

Shouldn't be a problem. Used a Raymarine 4000 wheel drive with with the X5 controller. The wheel drive unit is just a dumb motor with a two wire connection.
