What filters do you use for your Watermaker

I have a SeaRecovery water maker with 5 and 25 micron pre-filters. The manual is very specific about only using their filters, saying use of others could damage the unit.

I find it hard to believe that there’s anything unique about their 10x2.5” pleated filters. They cost about 4x what you can find elsewhere.

Do others use off the shelf filters for pre-filtering water going to your water makers?

I get mine from Amazon, just be sure to get pleated ones and not spun.
Reason is pleated has much, much more surface area, therefore less pressure / flow drop and longer life.
You can clean them at least once, Im leaning towards cleaning the 20 and a new 5 every time, I read that here, and it makes sense to me.

Re: What filters do you use for your Watermaker

I use Purtrex PX05-978. It's a melt blown microfiber technology, different from pleated or spun. They last much longer than either of other types, but are not cleanable. I never had much success cleaning filters anyway. I have a Sea Recovery system. Sea Recovery charges a minimum of 4x for the same off the shelf parts. Mine works OK, but lots of Watermakers work OK. When I need parts Sea Recovery is the last place I look. Sometime I have no choice, sometimes I do, like filters.
