Watermakers - Where to Start?

I am hoping to solicit some recommendations for manual, hand-held watermakers and water purifiers. I'd like to limit the amount of fresh water I need to lug, so I'm looking for something robust and that can be trusted to take the rigours of very regular use. Any suggestions as to particular makes/models, or general advice on what to look for/avoid would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all.

Re: Watermakers - Where to Start?

I've been researching this watermakers recently and came across a guide to build your own watermaker. Just enter "world's cheapest watermaker" in google and it there are plans to build your own $2000 watermaker which produces 100 liters/hour.

I know it isn't exactly what you were asking for, but here is an option if your going the manual route due to the price of other watermakers.

Here is a link to the article I found: (I haven't done this yet, but it looks easy enough)'s/D%2...Watermaker.pdf
