Didnt Henry Bessemer try exactly that and it turned out to increase sea sickness !!!!

Passive or active stabilizing tanks are not new. It's much cheaper than stabilizing fins and much more effective at low speed. A few years ago, I ran sea trials on an amphibious ship fitted with such a U-tank. When activated, it reduced the roll by one third. It could be appreciable for the troops aboard.
