Tow "D" rings

I am close to purchasing a new Achillies 9'2 RIB. It has two D rings on the tubes for a towing harness, and also has a bow eye on the glass hull. The Caribe 9' it is replacing, only had a bow eye, and that is how it was towed, for many miles. It would seem to me that a reinforced bow eye would be better to tow with, rather than the D rings. I also don't use a bridle, nor a floating line, and now only tow short distances as I have davits.

Re: Tow "D" rings

If the tow eye on the hull was enough for the caribe it should be enough for the Achilles. And I would agree that the bow eye is stronger as the D rings on the tubes have to be attached on the surface to prevent air leakage. If you wanted to you could splice two lengths into some three strand far enough back that the main line runs to the bow eye so as to have three points of contact and a fail safe if one should give way without much more trouble for storage than a single line 👍
