Swamped Dinghy

Hello,

I am a longtime reader, first time poster. We finally got our inflatable the other day and after inflating it, getting the outboard setup and then running around in it we were thrilled! Thrilled until this morning we experienced a monsoon! The dinghy was loaded with quite a bit of water and it got me thinking, how the hell am I going to get this out..

The problem is we have an LSI 290 with an inflatable floor, which is of course where the water is hard to get to. The water raised the floor up where it was almost popping out.

I noticed the plug in the back has a one way valve, will it self bail if I take it for a spin? What's the best way to get water out of this thing, because taking it to the dock every time it rains is a royal pain in the *%&

pull the plug.....if it's the sort with a check valve. We used to have a mercury dinghy with the check valve and I never put the plug in. Once it's drained, hoist the dinghy out of the water at night, bow high and never worry about flooding again.

Even if the plug doesn't have a check valve, you can get the water out if you have a big enough motor--at least 3-4 hp. Just give it some throttle and pull the plug, then re-insert it when the dinghy is empty.

If it has rained a horrendous amount and the water level in the dinghy is higher than outside, just pull the plug and let it drain before you get into it.

Re: Swamped dinghy

Thanks, I thought that was the solution but didn't wanna risk it.
I appreciate the tip!
