Re: Stopping the Dinghy Swaying Around on Davits

The photos above show my davits, that I keep my dinghy on offshore, but these phots are not taken offshore. (I wouldn't have the bucket, loose lines, "garden" LED's, etc. offshore). These stainless steel pipe davits with theirr distal ends attached to shrouds to the mizzen masthead are more than sufficient for my Carribe10L lighweight (without the double hull) and no outboard left attached or cargo held inside. Offshore I cross ties from the dinghy to the davits and cinch the aft (starbord) side of the dinghy high so as not to likely recieve water from high following seas and to be able to ship the water quickly. I also jam in fenders, as shown in the first photo, to stiffen the tie, and then tie the fenders to the davits at two points so they can not work out of position. A light empty dinghy on high strong davits can do well offshore if it's well secured. I would add that my "offshore" is island hoping in good weather. My dinghy would be on the deck for a long passage!
