Re: Solar shower for when on the hook

My wife and I used a 2.5 gal Sunshower when we cruised in the Carribean. We hung it from the Windbugger pole. It was sufficient for two navy showers. The water would run down the side deck and out the scuppers. Water was always hot-sometimes too hot! Ever few days we would take a "real' shower below-we had to run the engine everyday as we had an engine-driven refrig compressor- so hot water was plentiful.

Even when I stopped in Weehawken on occassion the showers were never that close. Unlimited hot water is nice but, required an extra half hour by the time you were done. Plus I'd needed all the sleep I could get.

1 gallon weed sprayers are less than 10$ and if painted black will get very hot. Shorten the wand or put an actual shower head on it. Worked for me for 2 years and was cheep. Dont ever use a used one. You cant wash the weed spray out.____Grant.

Re: Solar shower for when on the hook

I have replaced the shower heads on our solar shower bags with spray nozzles like those used on the kitchen sink at home. They work well; there is plenty of flow and they shut off automatically when released.

Re: Solar shower for when on the hook

We use a 1 gallon weed sprayer with a kitchen sink spray nozzle added. One gallon is plenty for my wife or daughters to shower and wash their hair. I can easily shower with half a gallon. If it's a cool or cloudy day, we heat some water in the tea kettle.

However, I recently looked at a boat that had a couple of empty, half-gallon plastic liquor bottles in a plastic milk crate up on deck. They were the sun showers. The owners had used them for years.

Simple is best. I've taken those plastic bag, purpose-made sun showers on sailing trips and found we just didn't use them.

She has hair past shoulder length.
