Portaboat vertical lift

I have run across a reference in this forum to assembling a folding Portaboat vertically while suspended from a halyard. Does anyone have any specifics on how easily this is done, and what wind or other limitations might be involved?
Thanks

I'd be interested to see that, too, as I wonder if it would be worth it to even bother. Portabotes assemble with some persuasion required, and that leverage is lost if you only have the mast to push against instead of the deck.

Also, the reason I went Portabote in the first place was due to the chaos of hauling a RIB vertically onto the deck via a halyard...it wasn't the weight that gave me pause...it was how the wind batted the thing around so easily.

Re: Portaboat vertical lift

Answered my own question by purchasing a 8'6" Porta Bote. Used the staysail halyard to lift the whole thing up to where it leaned against the mast. Although I would definitely recommend this as a two person operation, it is do-able in wind conditions up to about 10 knots. I foresee some entertainment value for those others at anchorage as this wrestling match occurs in the putting together and taking apart modes. We carefully chose a location where there were no spectators for our first several efforts; but managed to get it in the water within 10 minutes. We love the dinghy and so far we are sticking with oars only. The little thing tracks very much better than inflatables!

Steve:

I've used the main or flag halyard to lift the Portaboat on board by myself for years. But, I usually just carry it over turned on the cabin top:

Fits nicely and when it's raining I can keep the forward overhead hatch open and still have air flow down below. Love the Portaboat!

Well yes the Portaboat is not for everyone. Idiots for example. Though this was obviously a set up gag. I routinely fold and unfold my Portaboat without problems both on docks and on board the boat on occasion.
