Outboard Life

I'm looking at a 2nd hand Mercury 25hp 1994 model.
By appearance it looks very 'new' on the outside. Compressions apparently check at 115/115 - and has just been dealer serviced.
I would appreciate opinions on the likely longevity and reliability.
It is 30 to 40% of the price of a new one - and I really don't want to lay out the full $$ for a new one...

I'm not a big fan of Mercs but your compression suggests a very healthy engine.
The "roots" of the system are in check, the rest is mostly plug and play.

I'd think ya could get one for 500-750 bucks in great shape but a dealer would usually want much more.

Hopefully someone here is familiar with that particular year and can tell ya if there are any concerns.

I had a 1994 Merc 9.9 that lasted through thick and thin, abuse and neglect for 15 years until I bought a bigger 15hp outboard. I sold the old Merc for $400 - it still ran but was having troubles getting to full power and I was not in the mood to rebuild it.
- - I have had other brands - modern 2008 to 2010 that didn't last a year or two. I think the older models have more stamina and just last longer - at least that is the line I give my girlfriends.
