Re: In search of simple lightweight outboard

I have a Yamaha 6 that I can carry and mount, and it planes my 8 ft RIB with two people on board. I can't ask for much better...

I don't have a dinghy for it currently but my 2 Hp mercury is a fantastic motor if light, small, simple and reliable are the keys. It has a lot of power and starts right up every time.
I love mercury outboards and have had several that could not have been better.

Re: In search of simple lightweight outboard

Well, here is a NON recommendation: a few years ago our Suzuki 15 got pinched and in desperation I bought a Johnson 3.3 that was locally available. It was near new, very low hours, looked ok etc. Big mistake! It does run and start ok, but it is very noisy, it vibrates excessively, it has no neutral or gearshift, and it absolutely guzzles fuel considering its power. It is a single cylinder engine and has no redeeming features that I have found.

Cheers,

Jim
