Hyfong Outboards

Anyone has experience with Hyfong outboards?
These Chinese outboards are a real steal, but what about quality, servicing, parts procurement? It's probably made under a technology license, hence other brands parts may be more readily available? Looks like tohatsu maybe?

Re: Hyfong outboards

I call the importer in Canada, he claims Yamaha parts are 100% compatible. Again, if anyone has any experience with these engines I would appreciate the feedback.

Re: Hyfong outboards

Zhejiang Shunfeng Power Machinery produces Hyfong, 2-Stroke, 4-Stroke, & Diesel outboards.
Zhejiang Shunfeng Power Machinery Manufacturer Co.,Ltd.

They were founded in 2,000, and only manufactured about 8,000 engines in all of 2008, so there won't be much available experience.

Well, I think that you would have to be pretty brave to do this!! But, if you do, please keep all of us advised as to your experiences... lots of interested folks looking for less expensive o/b motors.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Hyfong outboards

If you need reliability, I would stick with the brands with a known track record. Complex machinery made by Chinese companies made in China do not have an exemplary track record. There is a degree of precision and metallurgical knowledge to machine parts that I do not think China has mastered yet....that's just been my experience. Something that is broken is never worth the money you saved on it.

The attached picture in the above post reminds me of the old SEAGULL! Wonder if it is just as loud and dirty? The Seagull was appropriately named for those qualities!

David M,

Nobody makes a diesel outboard. This is the first one I have see in a long time.
Maybe interesting to see if it is any good or a piece of junk.

Re: Hyfong outboards

I bought a chinese med duty 4wd tractor. They are CRAP and cut corners everywhere. I won't be burned a second time unless it was so cheap u could afford tothrow it out within a year. All those cheap atv and dirtbike, scooter s are chinese knockoffs and are also garbage

Re: Hyfong outboards

boatman61 & Dulcesuenos.

I guess I am just not that familiar with that kind of poor quality.
Have used either Nissan or Tohatsu dingy engines and really like both of them.

The reason I mentioned it is because those guys using the gas Yamaha 9.9 high output engines always mention they would like to have a diesel.

Thought these 10hp diesels would be a solution.

Re: Hyfong outboards

I think you have to be careful buying chinese products.
I bought a cheap chinese 4hp outboard, and it lasted only a week.

I did see an interesting concept on my last visit to China that they use on their river barges.
It was a very heavily built outboard leg, mounted onto the back of the boat and they connected whatever diesel motor they needed.
