How Big an Engine for a 3.2m Tender

Tender is a AB Rib - 3.2m (16.5ft)
I have a Tohatsu 9.8hp - but this won't get on the plane with the 4 of us on board.
Will a 15hp do the job or do I need 20hp ?

You have a 16.5 foot dink on a 41 foot boat?

We have seen that size dinghy with 90hp obs. That'd make it plane

15 hp per tonne to make a boat reach planning speed.

Our 15hp 4 stroke can plane 3 but not 4...Most 20's are 15's with a bigger carb. and weigh the same.

Get the 20 or the 25 if the weight is similar.

Perhaps a typo, or wrong conversion factor....?

A standard 310 dink, (3.10 meters) = 10 feet 2 inches long.

A Yamaha 15 2 stroke's what you need in a ten foot dink.

Depending on the weight of the dink, Vasco and Moondancer have the range. If it's a lightweight version, the 15 will be more than fine. BTW, 3.2m = 10.5ft.

We have a lightweight 11.9 AB with a Yamaha 8HP 4-stroke. Planes easily with two adults, but wish we had gone for the 15.

Fair Winds,
Mike
