How About One OF These As A Tender?

"The first all electric hydrofoiling personal watercraft":

Quadrofoil

I especially like these features:

"Wt: 100Kg*
*weight without foils, engines and batteries"
(yeah, that's really useful info - so what do the foils, engines and batteries weigh?)

and

"Foil design places the center of gravity 8 meters above the vessel, ensuring Quadrofoil to stay horizontal at all times." (WTF???)

Re: How About One OF These As A Tender?

Bet it costs 20,000 US, so maybe not...

I assume the center of gravity may be at 8 meters when on the foils, but even allowing for any buoyancy in the foils, at rest, the stability looks about on par with a straddle type jet ski (or whatever their current appellation is). Given the weight of jet skis, they may actually be more stable than the Quadrofoil at rest, although with batteries, foils and motor, I'd not be surprised if the weights were about the same.

Re: How About One OF These As A Tender?

I researched the batteries independently which are substantial in cost and weight. About $10,000 and 250 lbs. For comparison the Chevy Volt 16 kwh battery weighs 450#. Maybe they have lighter cheaper ones. Is the battery included in the price?
With the foils down it draws 1 meter but it looks like they are pivoting but no details.
Then there is this:
2. Final Price Sheet:
The Final Price Sheet will be provided to you as your delivery date nears. It will include final pricing based on your final Vessel Configuration and will include taxes and official or governmental fees that you will be responsible for paying.

So pay a 35% deposit now and later get the actual price. And it's made in Slovenia!
It's a really crappy website with no exact details on cost or actual weight and doesn't show how the foils retract. The more powerful one starts out at only $28,000! Plus shipping, options, etc.

I already placed my order!

It can't be CG, unless it's tethered to a balloon, I think they may mean roll center?

If there is no weight or effort above the center of gravity? And there certainly isn't.

I think 8m is a bogus number. I bet they used some radius of the underwater foils, which MIGHT only make sense while it is actually foiling.

That would make sense.....but again only when foiling.

CG has to be within the mass, it can't be above or below it

I like it, I'll take the blond model. And, if they have a red head model I'll take one of the also. The high owner version.

For the brunet I'll ned a low power version. They can be feisty those brunette. I think I need tomake us I get one I can handle.

You are in a Wally or Perrini?

It does not fit a Wally.

Re: How About One OF These As A Tender?

Let somebody else bite first. Don't be the lab rat. Very expensive experiment that I believe has a good chance of ending badly.

A hydrofoil would make a cool toy, but I don't like the idea of using it for a tender for a sailboat. Electric is good if you are okay with the inherent limitations. I intend to electrify my kayak/tender next year and i have already repowered my live aboard sailboat with electric drive. But I wouldn't touch an electric hydrofoil tender even if it was cheap, until I see some credible reviews. I just can't picture it being practical. Gotta show me on this, not just tell me.

Growley, you obviously did not include in the purchase price the cost of all the safety equipment that comes FREE with the boat -

Safety gear

You don’t just get an empty vessel. Two life jackets, a paddle and a safety whistle are included.

Re: How About One OF These As A Tender?

looks like it would be easy to drive onto a beach, get close to a dock and when the battery dies you can easily row! other than that it's useless.

<face palm> well I'm so embarrassed! I wasn't figuring all the freebies thrown in!
