A Headgear question, maybe one for those from Oz??

A good few years ago I was down in Oz and went for a few days skippered charter in the Whitsundays - hopefully one day I will get back.

But, anyway - the Skipper has what seemed to me to be really effective (and I thought cool!) headgear as sun protection. It is kinda hard to describe - so please bear with me whilst I do my best!

It was like a short version of Arab headdress, except with a peaked cap and could be either clipped accross the lower face or left open. EIther way it was loose, not like a balaclava. It was far more than a baseball cap with a flap on the back of the neck. It did not have a "Hard" cap like a baseball cap. I think it was fixed on top of his head by a band like on a peaked Sunvisor. Definately a hot weather item, no designed to keep one warm.

I don't think he said it was self made. Anyone seen anything remotely similar (apart from on the news ) commercially available?

I'm making fun of people like my aunt, who is scared to death of terrorism and lives in the middle of nowhere. I find it comical how so many are so scared of terrorism and the genuine fear of those small lit up signs that looked like Lite Brite in Boston created a few days back. Wearing this headgear would have you profiled by the police as well as weird citizens in the States.

I must confess I would be after one in a normal colour, and was not planning to wear it upon arrival at JFK .

I agree that the guy looks a complete dork , but you will need to trust me that "in real life" (and in white, with no face mask) it doesn't look quite so strange. Honest

They have velcro tab's at the front so you can close it in around your neck and just have a slit for the eyes.
