I second that. The sun will eventually break down the plastic cans.

I hate having gasoline on my boat so I switched to a Lehr propane outboard.
I feel it's safer and I know it's cleaner to handle.
The propane outboards seem very attractive for the reasons you mention. My concern is the out of the way locations and refueling them. Maybe its a misconception on my part that gas will be easier to come by.

I understand that propane is the most common cooking fuel in the world so it is probably available most places in the world. The trouble is that it might not be available near the dock and the fittings might be different in other places.

If you are just using it to push a dinghy at displacement speeds, the little 2.5 uses so little propane that you can carry many hours of fuel on board. A twenty pound bbq tank would run it for more than twenty hours.

The bigger the engine, the more I'd be concerned about the availability of propane.
