We have a 55lb thrust electric motor for saltwater use.. that is important, a fresh water one will fall apart quick. We have aprox 1/4 mile to our mooring and it pushes our 10 foot zodiac along just fine. It certainly will not plane the boat, this is one of the trade offs. I am not tiny by any means, nor is my wife, and we pile stuff into her, we have no problems. We are moored at the mouth of the CT river and at times the wind/current is really moving the water around and we have not yet had an issue..... We have two batteries, one is always on charge with the solar panels. It is very quiet, it is part of our plan to be as self sufficent as possible. We have just sold our house and will be moving onto the boat this Friday...
