Does the $134 WaterSeer have cruising applications?

Wind-powered device can produce 11 gallons per day of clean drinking water from the air

https://www.waterseer.org

The WaterSeer is relatively simple device, designed to be operated without an external power input, and without the need for costly chemicals or maintenance, that can 'pull' moisture from thin air and condense it into water using the temperature difference between the above-ground turbine and the collection chamber installed six feet underground. The potable water can then be delivered to the surface for use via a simple pump and hose, and the device is said to be able to produce up to 11 gallons per day, even in arid regions.

And the best part? The WaterSeer will be priced at just $134.

Interesting idea, and I liked the performance tests and reviews by ...oh wait a minute, there are none. It sounds like so far there is only a design concept, and no proof that it can or will work at all.

I could give that a dozen relief organizations and have them field test it, and in a couple of months put out a press release that had PROVEN whether it worked or not.

That they didn't so so, makes me wonder if it isn't another wonder company looking for investors to part from their money.

Fair point. The concept is simple so I see how they are collecting vapor. I see how they condense. Need to see it work. Time will tell.

There are quite a few on the market now that operate on that same principle.

You will find them on survivalist sites and also on some bike sites.

A tangent but I bought into Wataire years ago for 10G's. Lost every dime. Anybody else?

Re: Does the $134 WaterSeer have cruising applications?

Seems there was thread on this some time back, maybe someone with more smarts can find it. Bottom line, it really doesn't work. Something about lack of moisture in the air in the environs where it will condense properly. Or something similar to that..

Actually if anyone thinks they have a real practical way to suck water out of humid air...the XPrize folks are offering big money for this exact purpose. Anyone who meets certain criteria for operating costs, volume, etc. can enter with them and take the prize, which will be awarded next year if anyone can get the job done.

They just have to build ONE and actually SHOW that it works.

That's a fair test.

This looks like a forced air solar still using ground temp to speed up condensing. I see where they get the airflow. I see where they get the cooling. The components make sense but not my area of expertise. If it's legit they'll claim the prize money !!

Wataire built several and had contracts with the government. Unfortunately the principal absconded with all the money. Lots of people lost a lot.

Re: Does the $134 WaterSeer have cruising applications?

I am wondering where you got the $134 price as I went to the link you provided and the cost is $975.00. Am I missing something?

Re: Does the $134 WaterSeer have cruising applications?

Going to the link you provided, I see that they're not actually available. The button says "Reserve now." That's generally enough to make me run the other way, but it would be a great thing if it works as claimed.

You'll never be able to buy one, because they're against the law. Of physics.

Fair enough. Thanks all for the feedback. It's up to X Prize from here.

Re: Does the $134 WaterSeer have cruising applications?

Even *IF* the WaterSeer actually did work, the cruising application would be essentially none. How do you get a cooler environment for the bottom end of the "mushroom"? Let's say, for argument's sake, you have a floating unit with the lower bulb below the surface. In typical cruising locations, the water is often going to be warmer than the air, so no cooling and no water. And salt contamination of the unit is all but a certainty. And let's not even consider how to store such a device on a cruising boat. Better to invest your time and money on an RO water maker.
