Do you use Oil Lamps

The original is 5 inches tall, and I am afraid a 10 1/2 inch chimney would hit the bulkhead when the boat hobbyhorses .

I did find a 1 5/8 inch chimney, 4 1/2 inches tall on the site you linked to. I am thinking an adaptor cut from a tin or aluminum can might shim up the lacking 1/16 inch, or I can bend the little metal "fingers" that hold the chimney, toward the center. .. They are cheap at $4.5o, so I will order two of them, and see if I can make a simple adaptor ring, or circular band shim.

They appear to be the same shape as the original chimneys.

I'll post the results.

Bestathook, Build a wooden block, thick enough, to allow the yoke mount more room from the bulkhead. Do the same for the smoke cap.

I'm a big fan of oil lamps, have several. I'm not a fan, however, of refilling them. A big PITA.

I decided to try a bottle with a spout — found out that the type of bottle I thought would work is called a wash bottle.

I bought one on eBay, tried it, and very happy!

With one hand I can tip up the burner, poke the wash bottle spout in, and filler 'er up. No mess. I just leave the oil in the bottle, wedging it in so it doesn't spill.

Resurrecting an old thread, but any brand name suggestions for the best lamp fuel? Amazon reviews seem to alternate between ‘no smell’ and ‘worst smell ever’ for the same product...

No particular brand, but I buy "Clear Pure Paraffin lamp Oil"...

I found a lamp supposedly made of brass (checked with a compass that it is not magnetic), should not rust. IIRC, it is made by Dietz.



The only initial trouble was, the wick was much too thick, so it gave a lot of soot. After I replaced the wick, the lamp works fine.
