Re: dinghy registration ?

Yes, most states require registration of any boat with a motor. That is irrespective of it being used as a tender for a documented boat.

Re: Dinghy Registration ?

Varies by State. Check the laws in the State where the boat resides.

Re: Dinghy Registration ?

Use oars, most states don't require registration for dinks that don't have motors on them ! if ya have an engine, ya are gonna have to register it at least everywhere Ive ever been in the USA!! as said above ck it out with the state your in but I think you will find out ya need to register if a motors gonna be used !! just my 2 cents

Re: Dinghy Registration ?

State registration, yes; federal no. For federal numbers and to satisfy the CG requirement for three inch permanently affixed numbers, just add a hyohen 1 or a slash 1 to your documentation numbers.

Re: Dinghy Registration ?

Florida requires that both the dinghy and the documented boat be registered. The cost varies by county.

Re: Dinghy Registration ?

Just goes to show how confused the authorities are!!

We were pulled over ($90 fine) for creating a wake with our RIB at about 4-5kt in Ft. Lauderdale. It just so happened that the biggest wake was the vessel traveling in the opposite direction that caused a bow wave to come over the front of our RIB!

Anyway the point is that Florida's best & finest actually gave us sh!t for having our dinghy registered (in RI). They actually said that a "tender" does not require registration in Florida. Of course they could well be totally wrong, as they were with our ticket!!
