Dephinus ALUMINUM RIB??

Hi,

I have been looking at aluminum hulled ribs, and came across these:

Delphinus aluminum hull Inflatable boats

There is not much info on the web. Does anyone have experience with this make? I know they also make inexpensive PVC boats, which I am not interested in. The aluminum hulled boats are listed as being made with Hypalon.

Surely somebody here on the vast CF has one of these? Any other Aluminum options other than AB?

I had an aluminum-hulled Aquapro RIB. The powder coat was easily scratched, and you can't use copper-based bottom paints on aluminum. It was an okay boat, but I wouldn't/didn't buy another one. I like to be able to beach my dinks, and the last thing I want to worry about is whether I scratch it in the process.

My hope would be to find one that is unpainted. I don't use bottom paint on our current boat, and most likely would not, or would use a paint that is ecco - and aluminum friendly.

Scratching the bare aluminum does not worry me, or should it?

You want to avoid painted aluminum if at all possible. Copper bottom paint on an aluminum dink would be okay if you have an epoxy barrier coat and are careful not to scratch the barrier coat, that's kind of a big if though. There is anti-fouling paint available for aluminum hulls but it is less effective than copper paint.
