Antique/Vintage Grumman Dinghy - Value?

Hello Jeff, Do you still have the Grumman? I'm on my second restoration (first boat was crushed by a falling tree) and always on the lookout for another one. They are pretty rare, but not all in great shape. Salt water boats took the worst beating, but even fresh water boats can have significant corrosion. They can also get pretty dented up which is difficult to do much about. Restoring old aluminum is pretty painstaking, but it can be done (not sure how to attach an image to this forum).

I also have a copy of the original brochure for these dinghies if anyone is interested.

Do you have pictures of it?

I am on a site where they restore aluminum cars all the time. Doesn't seem to hold them back? What would be so difficult?........i2f

I have a Grumman sailing dinghy. I acid etched it and coated it with SaniTred with non-skid on the inside. Terrific dink. Can't say what it's worth to others, but I wouldn't part with mine for less than $3k. Nothing like it built today.

Hello! I've been looking for a Grumman dinghy for years. I need it to tote my Samoyed dog around. I also need some exercise. I live in the mountains of North Carolina, about 35 miles from Clemson. I don't have a clue about the Grumman's worth, but I'd be willing to give two or three hundred dollars if she still floats, or trade my 13' 1953 Feathercraft Deluxe Runabout, if you'd rather do that. I paid $500 for it about ten years ago.

I just purchased a back-yard Grummen Sailboat dingey with the "Grumman Aircraft Engineering" tag and the numbers 72 D S on it. It is in tact but nothing in the wat of running gear. Any Ideas? I see that this string has been running scense 2008

The reason Grumman boats and canoes are so well made is that Grumman learned on airplanes: fighters and seaplanes. When the market took a nosedive -ha ha- at the end of WW II, they started building boats. I think Grummans are the only aluminum canoes with flush rivets for the ribs. I have an 18-footer that I bought as a wreck after a big tree fell on it. The hull is heat-treated - not easy to bend. All riveted - no welding.

Ditto on the quality of the Grumman boats.

My first sailboat (in the late 70's) was a 16' Grumman flyer. Built like the dinghy with two large formed sheets of aluminum, joined at the keel and stem, with a separate piece for the stern. Everything was superb on that boat, including the way it sailed.

Those old Grumman's are a work of art! I looked at a 12ft rowing boat once.

Funny, my Grumman canoe died a couple of years ago when a huge Oak tree fell on it, My Father bought the thing from Grants when I was about 10 yrs old, it would have lasted I believe forever.
Same story as Airstream trailers, being made by Aircraft people that is.
