Alternative hypolon adhesive

Have a hole in my hypolon dinghy that I need to repair but do not have the recommended adhesive, which is further complicated by my location, San Andres, where it is not available. Thinking that an alternative could be PVC plastic pipe cement or GOOP marine contact adhesive. Feedback and recommendations appreciated.

Re: Alternative hypolon adhesive

use 5200 by 3m or 291 or 11fc by sikaflex,both polyeuratane sealants.
clamp repair for at least 24 hrs, clean surfaces and sand prior to application of hypalon patch works great.

Re: Alternative hypolon adhesive

what atoll said. i used 5200 on an avon some years ago and it's still holding.

another even cheaper alternative that i discovered by accident is GORRILA brand of super glue. no other brand seems to work. don't know how long it will hold but it's been about a year now....

Re: Alternative hypolon adhesive

West G/flex epoxy is also recommended for hypalon. G/flex is my "go to" epoxy but I haven't tried it myself on hypalon. Any experiences?

Hi
Down here in Roatan SC2000 works great. It is a commercial two part glue for conveyor belts. If you can get it it is the best. There is a web page for it.

Regular 5200 clamped for 24hrs won't do it - it will bubble out because the adhesive will not be fully cured. That would take 3-5 days. A pinhole repair might be OK.

Fast cure 5200 clamped for 48hrs would be a sure cure. Clamped for 24hrs would probably work.

Re: Alternative hypolon adhesive

What glue would I use to fasten a piece of webbing to a Hypalon boat (an Avon 285 rollup)? Would gorilla glue work?

Don't, sew it into a patch and then glue the patch to the tube like this. Our dinghy is suspended by a couple of these btw.

Circular Webbing Loop Patch

If your stuck, go to the local hardware shop and look for a flexible floor tile adhesive. Its goo for the job. Regards Joe
