1.01 GPM Hydracell pump for watermaker how many GPH product ?

When we bought our Bene 473 it had all the parts to make a watermaker , all new never used , o we have a 2540 membrane + pressure vessel , the 1.5-2hp 240 volt motor a high pressure pump etc etc

Now preparing to put it all together I am trying to figure out how many GPH 'product' I can expect

After a lot of reading and comparing with other watermakers I *think* I know the answer ? or approx guestimate ? maybe someone can check my thinking

the HP pump is a Hydra-cell G22 (metric version of the F22)

Now the Mfg states this pump delivers around 1.01 GPM to the membrane , comparing with Rich' watermaker , that uses a pump that supplies 1.6 GPM to produce 20GPH product , is it save to say my pump and install will make 16GPH (-20% as it supplies 20% less water to the membrane)

Now I thought I had it figured out until I came across this thread (the only other setup I could find with this pump) , where someone built a WM with the same membrane and pump and claims 25GPH (!!) and that made me scratch my head

The Watermaker Dilemma - Page 2 - Cruiser Log World Cruising & Sailing Forums

its a membrane pump rated @ 1.01 GPM @ 1500 PSI , does it somehow deliver more water @ 800 PSI ?

F20 Series (US) / G20 Series (Metric)

Q: with this Hydracell pump , what kind of GPH range can I expect ?

Re: 1.01 GPM Hydracell pump for watermaker how many GPH product ?

At that point in the product water vs sea water flow rate curve it's pretty linear. So your sea water flow rate is about 38% less then the 1.6 gallon per minute pump so you can expect about 40% less Water Production than 20 gallons per hour. When we've built water makers with the 1.0 gallon per minute pump you get about 12 to 13 gallons per hour using a standard Dow sw30-2540 at 800 PSI 68-degree water.

Be sure to follow up and please let us know how that pump works and what type of flow rate you're getting at 800 PSI. I've had several clients ask about that style of pump they're just used very rarely in the commercial water maker field so it be cool to get some real life feedback.

If you have any questions just let me know as you start the unit up I'll be happy to help.

Re: 1.01 GPM Hydracell pump for watermaker how many GPH product ?

thanks Rich !

12 - 13 GPH product is a bit disappointing

I will start bolting the system together this summer and will measure how many GPH it really delivers and will report back . If it really is 12-13 GPH I may have to change the pump anyway (if the 240 volt is strong enough to run a bigger pump ) to get a big more product out of it

Let me know if you want to get rid of that pump. I've been wanting to play around with one that size

Will do but shipping is likely prohibitively expensive as its in Almerimar Spain
Sourcing one in the US is most likely cheaper

Re: 1.01 GPM Hydracell pump for watermaker how many GPH product ?

Ok , some real life numbers
This hydracell pump with a 1gpm feedpump

1 single Dow 2521 membrane : 40 liters per hour

Or

2 pcs 19 inch membranes (from a little wonder 200) 60 liters per hour

Ps measured it with a 2 liter coke bottle and a stopwatch

Pps the little wonder on 12 volt does around 20 liters per hour , enough to get by but not enough to take daily showers with a family of 4
