You mean like this one?

Sheer pleasure handling a good knife, whether it be a pocket knife or chef's knife or one used for slashing the top off a bottle of bubbly .

Would a midshipman bend be suitable for lashing a safety net under my bowsprit? What knot is best for lashing my new net to the whisker stays?

Looks and behaves like one .
It is a Kyocera, discontinued now, but here is the link:
"ceramic pocket knife, knives, pocketknife, kyocera pocket knife, ceramic folding knife, small knife, gentlemans knife, small ceramic knife, concealable knife, neck knife, credit card knife, pocketknives, kyocera knife, sale, lowest, prices"

And this is its brother:
Kyocera Ceramic Pocket Knife PK-050-BKS: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

The inlay is a bit too fancy for my liking, but it functions beautifully.

Hi Idora
I can't see how a Midshipman's would work, but I don't know what would be best . Not an expert here, just an enthusiast that is learning in leaps and bounds .

Maybe someone else can chip in and help.

Re: Zeppelin Bend - next best thing to sliced bread

I promised instructions on how to tie the Zeppelin loop, but after a few tests on our winch I am very dubious about the quality of this loop.

It is a new knot, introduced only a few years ago. The problem with it is that it behaves just like the Alpine Butterfly loop - it can jam when load is applied to the loop (the bowline, bowline on the bight and Zeppelin bend have no such tendency under similar loads.

I may well be stronger than a bowline (can anyone test this out?), but it capacity to jam makes it very off-putting. I cannot imagine many situations where a bowline (or one of its variations like the water version, double, or with a Yosemite finish) would not suffice. I would therefore consider the Zeppelin loop not worth learning unless you have a keen interest in knots.

A mini war is currently waging on the International Guild of Knot Tyers Forum regarding this loop. Knot tyers can get surprisingly passionate about knots .

This is the Zeppelin loop I tied before load was applied:

Re: Zeppelin Bend - next best thing to sliced bread

This was after I applied load via winch (Lewmar 54, five turns around the winch, maximum winching by hand). You can see how one of the overhands clamped down hard (the one where load was applied to what is essentially the tail in the Zepp bend):

Re: Zeppelin Bend - next best thing to sliced bread

This was the result trying to untie it. One side opened easily, as the Zepp bend does, the other side could not even be budged with a Marlin spike:

I heard that zeppelin, inc. is recalling all their knots because of an inherent flaw in the manufacturing process. Is this true, SWL?

Malicious rumours and slanderous comments spread by Alpine Butterfly inc.
At the length truth will out .
