Just bought a practically new boat. It has black Lewmar 50ST EVO primary winches. I'd like to install electric winches. So, do I buy the conversion kits and retool the existing winches OR if you were doing this, would you buy new Lewmar 50 (or Harken or Anderson) electric winches, install them and try to sell the virtually new winches that are currently on the boat? Are there boaters out there who would buy practically new 2014 Lewmar winches for maybe $500 less than market cost? Thanks.

It's cheaper to do the conversion. But while going thru this pain it's also worth looking into winch size. Most boats come out of the shop with winches that are just barely large enough, upgrading the size and going electric at the same time may be worthwhile.

In which case, yes there is a very strong market for ST winches, almost regardless of their age.
