What would these pad eyes be for?

On my yacht there are 2 pad eyes on the starboard side towards the bow. I don't know if they were put on originally by the manufacturer (Hunter) or put on by past owner. Any idea what they would be used for?Click image for larger version

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

My first guess would be to hang a ladder, but they are not at a gate.

I did think of that, but the gate is on the port side at the bow.

Might have something to do with how a previous owner tied down a tender.

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

I just had an idea. I remember seeing on their Facebook page a large what looked like an esky on the front of the boat. That could be what it was for

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

Would that be practical on a long sea voyage to have an esky strapped on the deck?

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

Plenty of marinas have small boarding piers that won't work for every gate on every boat. Perhaps they used to berth the boat bow first and thus made the gate useless and a makeshift boarding ladder was added.

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

For whatever you want to use them for. Best guess is either for a turning block or a preventer for the boom going down wind. Chuck

This is just a shot in the dark but is there a corresponding attachment point forward that whisker pole and spinnaker pole could use these padeyes for the after attachment?

Re: What would these pad eyes be for?

I have seen people use eskies on deck for extra vegetable storage.

Or could they be fairleads for a roller furler line since removed?

Or maybe a convenient place to attach the halyards in the marina or at anchor, preventing the noisy slapping against the mast?
