What is This? Pic of Spinnaker Pole Fitting

I am on a search for a spinnaker pole for my 1978 Cal 39 MkII Tall Rig. I bought her last year and haven't found a used one yet and may have to end up paying for a new one, ugh!

I was looking at the UTS-400-UGPS as recommended by Forespar, but I already have this fitting on the boat (see image). What type of spinnaker end fittings did this thing fit with?

Forespar Pole Size Guide

Thanks all,

Adam

Is the end piece that you are holding in the second photo attached to a ring that is fitted to the mast? I think I can see the ring in the first photo. If so, a generic spinnaker pole will have the fitting to attach to the ring and you can opt to bypass the other fitting.

That is an old Sparcraft bell fitting but I'm afraid nobody makes them any more. Its matching part is a cone shaped thingy which fits the rear end of the pole and locks into the bell. Here is a photograph from the old catalog. Yours looks like the second one down.

Sparcraft is now owned by Wichard and not all the old Sparcraft branded products are still available. Call them and see if they still have any.

If you are forced to buy new then check out the ranges of pole end fittings also put out by Forespar and Tylaska which might suit your needs better.

Re: What is This? Pic of Spinnaker Pole Fitting

CaptForce is right that many spinnaker poles simply clip onto a track-mounted ring on the mast. We use this setup on our J/36, and it's worked for us using the spinnaker in breezes up to about 25 or so knots. If you go that route, you'll need a hefty track-mounted ring, and the bell can be dismounted. Your boat is a bit bigger than ours, however, with a masthead spinnaker to boot. The forces involved may be substantially more than we deal with, and a more positive attachment than a track-mounted ring might be called for. (That may be in fact why a bell fitting was used originally.) It might be best to talk to a rigger, who will be able to calculate the loads and determine what will be the safest and best long-term solution. You don't want the ring to fail and have the pole come zipping back into the cockpit like a missle if you can help it. I've been on boats where the reaching strut wasn't securely lashed, and been glad I wasn't on the foredeck when it shot across with a "twang!" at head height.
