Walder Boom Brake rebuild

Recently found a Walder Boom Brake which is frozen up and has some aluminium oxidation on the pulley.

Boom Brake Walder

Can’t find any diagrams or information on how these things go together, has some bolts with Allen centres which are also frozen.

Has anyone pulled one of these apart? Any information out there?

Re: Walder Boom Brake rebuild

There is nothing 'mechanical' in them, so I'm not 100% sure what you are asking. The 'pulley' doesn't move at all. It is the friction of the rope sliding over the center that slows the boom.

The center is all one piece with tapped holes for the machine screws. The outer plates are just through bolted to the center piece. The arms are attached to the outer plates. And the boom attachment is between the two outer plates. Nothing is hidden.

Good luck removing the screws.

Thanks, I looked at a video and the center sheave seemed to rotate, so I assumed there was some sort of mechanism inside.

Re: Walder Boom Brake rebuild

Hi Olaf, I wonder if you have found a solution to this ?

I think I'm facing the same issue. Used this Walder boombrake with satisfaction for a couple of years. But facing now, i think it is corrosion. (Alu versus stainless steel) It looks like I couldn't rely any more on the Walder.
