When I have to move something heavy on and off my boat (for instance, my 75 lb. air conditioner), I put a
rope harness on it and use a
halyard. A second line can be used by a second person to guide it to the
dock. I'm pretty strong, but most of my friends (around my age, 65) aren't, and it's not worth spraining a back to move an AC.
See if you can't use a halyard. I'm no mechanical
engineer, but your boom isn't designed to have lots of weight on its end.
