Thurston Sail

We are in the process of getting a quote for new sails -main and jib from Thurston sails in Rhode Island. We like the small loft, made locally sails vs the "other guys" who get their sails made in the Far East.

Does anyone own and use any Thurston sails or has anyone had sails made by this loft (especially offshore cruising sails?)

Any comments, experiences would be appreciated.

Re: Thurston Sail

Had a new loose footed main and jib made by Thurston 2 years ago. Nice sails, easy to work with. They had made the original sails for my Freedom in 1988. No complaints. Also did a nice job on a new dodger and bimini.

Re: Thurston Sail

Bought a complete suit from Thurston this year - very happy with the build quality. We had a slight error on the main which needed addressing - Steve came out to look at it and then after the weekend, he came to the boat, removed the sail and had it back on the boat on Thursday morning!

It's the service thing that wins me over - as well as the sails being made here in Bristol. I also found them to be extremely competitive price-wise.

Happy sailor!

Re: Thurston Sail

We haven't had Steve make us sails, but he did some work on our existing mainsail. Service and quality were excellent. When I had an issue, he was on the boat the same day. Issue was addressed exactly as I wished within another 48 hours. We've heard good things from others in Bristol about his sails. No question that we will be talking to him when we need new ones.

Re: Thurston Sail

Had a blade made for my old S&S 34. It was a great sail. A+ product and service.
