Swaging Rod Rigging

One more question. My rod rigging was re-swaged in 2000 and all the turnbuckles were replaced. Since 2000, the boat has not left the Long Island Sound. I plan a blue water trip. Should I consider to swag again or am I becoming paranoid? Thanks, Arjan

rod rigging is good for almost ever, but if checked in 2000, you now have 10 years on the conections.. at the least, have a rigging shop do a good check on it befor leaving..

From memory, Nav Tec recommends having the rod rigging assemblies x-rayed every year! Every year... what confidence! I suspect that this is directed mostly at race boats with the lightest possible rod size, but that's conjecture.

I had rod rigging on my last boat and looked up on the Navtec site (there's an old thread here somewhere). I don't remember any x-ray recommendation. I do rememeber them saying that the ends can be redone forever and there isn't any "recommended" life for replacing the rigging. They did have a life for replacing the screws; I think it was like every 15 years or something.

I recommend you check their site for the info. THEN check with a rigger.

I would think a lot depends on how hard you push your boat. Mine was 22 years old and was still all good when I got rid of it.
