Stiff Facnor headsail top halyard swivel

My top Facnor top halyard swivel on my Jeanneau 379 is very stiff. I have rinsed it, applied WD40, PTFE spray but it can revolve but is stiff. I was wondering if I wrapped it in plastic and put steam onto the bag whether that would work or just cause damage to the Totlon bearings? Anyone got any ideas on this? Appreciate some help. Chris

Re: Stiff Facnor headsail top halyard swivel

I don't think steam will help. Do you know why the bearing is stiff? If it is full of salt a 12/24 hr soak in distilled water may help. If the bearings are deformed then replacing the balls (not easy) will help. If the races are damaged then not much you can do.

Re: Stiff Facnor headsail top halyard swivel

Monstone,
Can i ask the outcome of this issue?

I have a similar problem. The bearing seem to be ok. Although the swivel rotates unevanly and creates friction. Iam looking at replacing the swivel, thinking that its flogged out. Im trying not to spew looking at the replacment price!

Luke.
