Stiff Bottom Bearing on Shaefer Furler

Has anyone had isssues with stiff bottom bearing on Shaefer furlers.

I'm away from the boat right now and the rigger is telling me it needs to be replaced. At $140 for bearing + $140 labor, is he having a lend of me?

I sea trialed the boat 4 weeks ago and no issues were evident with the furler. I'm thinking to tell him to leave it 'til I get back and check it out for myself. Timing for departure to Mexico from CA might be tight but I've got no desire to drop $280 for nothing which may just need some dry lub spray!
