Stepped Mast

Hello everyone, I am looking at a 1969 Cheoy Lee Luders 36. It has a mast stepped on deck, what are the pro's and con's of this setup?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,

John

This had been discussed before. While the following was focused on keel stepped mast, there was discussion of deck stepped masts.

There is no real consensus.

Aloha John,

I've had and sailed both and to me it is not a deal breaker. Either can be good out in the briny blue. One advantage of a deck stepped is that you can raise and lower easier if ever you need to go under bridges.

Check the rigging and hardware carefully on the Cheoy Lee and check the teak decks out for signs of leaks unless the prior owners have removed and glassed the decks over.

Good luck in your purchase.

Kind regards,

JohnL

You might check this discussion if your Cheoy Lee has teak decks.
