Stalok fittings with a Profurl headsail furler

I have a Profurl C42 furler unit with Stalok fittings top and bottom. It was like this when we bought the boat and a rigger who checked it then didn't feel it necessary to point it out. But since then someone else has suggested Stalok's at the top of furling units are a definate no no.
I can see no guidance in this regard in the installation manual. Anyone got any opinion's on this?

Re: Stalok fittings with a Profurl headsail furler

I have used either Sta lok or Norseman fitting at the top of furling stays for about twenty years now with no problems attributable to the usage. I recently had the rig out of our current boat under the supervision of a master rigger who did not criticize the Norseman terminals at the top of my two furlers.

It is possible that there is a species-specific reason associated with Profurl... I have never owned one of them. I think that your source may be in error.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Stalok fittings with a Profurl headsail furler

I dunno about a stalok at the top. In our new installation, the rigger, who is a Profurl dealer, installed staloks at the bottom of all our new rigging. Only thing he didn't like is that there isn't a proper toggle arrangement at the bottom of our Profurl, which eats the bearings over time.

Re: Stalok fittings with a Profurl headsail furler

Two things:
If the foils are not held up off a bottom stalok terminal, the plastic bearing will eventually break. At this point the foil will be turning on the stalok fitting and could undo the fitting. This is obviously not a possible problem at the top.
Re. the toggle problem in the above post: Stalok make a toggle assembly for Profurls. It is called 'eye toggle for Profurl/Facnor furling systems"
