Spreader Tips - Proper Name? Best design? Where to Buy?

Hey All -

I'm going to be replacing the spreaders on my Cal 2-27 soon. They are wood and have steel tips/clamps/caps on the end. Very similar to these:

The wood is easy enough to source and shape, but I don't know where I can get a new set of tips. Maybe it's because I'm using the wrong word. What is the proper term for the metal ends that the shrouds run through? I've been searching a variety of online vendors and can't come up with anything. Should I just be buying some stainless stock and cutting them myself?

I know there are also other designs, like this:

Any advice on which design is the strongest and most reliable?

Cheers
