I have just spliced 10 mm rope into 4mm wire and the only catch was the new style rope was a 3-layer design which created some extra challenge.

No bloody fingers as you are splicing rope into the wire thus all wire work is done pre-splicing: wire cutter, rigger's tape, gloves.

Do NOT forget the 'backing plates' that anchor your rigging terminals into the mast. Do not.
