+1 That is how I would do it if I was gonna do it. Except I Wouldnt do it. I think I wiuld install a smaller
rope clutch or use a cleat and stopper.
For a slight increase in Diameter Yiu can run a small line up the center of the line. Whose diameter you want to increase. But 3/16 to 1/2 Wouldnt
work. At least I dont think it would but you might try it. The obvious advantage is external smoothness at the transition, especially if you taper your filler line, which ccould be the still good core from an old diuble braid line.
Maybe use a double braid, with the cover removed to make the small part?
