Spinnaker/Gennaker
Is it necessary to have a bowsprit to use one, and which one is better?

I assume when you say "spinnaker" you mean an asymmetrical spinnaker. There is absolutely no need to have a bowsprit.
The difference between the two is not hard and fast, "gennaker" really being just a particular brand name of asymmetrical spinnaker designed to be more efficient at lower wind angles. There is no simple dividing line between the two.

Yes that is what I mean, that is helpful, another question, a lower wind angle would be running with the wind more? Sorry I am new to sailing.

Running with the wind is before the wind, IAW anything down wind of a reach.
A lower wind angle would be falling off, or turning away from the wind no matter which tack you may be on.

We used a Cruising Spinnaker on the end of my 8ft. bowsprit and it could prove death defying to get it down if the wind became too strong. There is not much room for one to manuever out there.

I use a cruising asym. spinnaker as shown in my avitar. I single hand a 44ft. motorsailer with all the lines coming back to one electric winch. Works great.

We attach the Asym spinnaker through a block on the end of the bowsprit and when we want to take it down we just release that line. It works great. (This was a Beth Leonard suggestion).

I have no bowsprit, the spinnaker is tacked using an ATN tacker to the furled jib. Since the jib is not used at the same time I use the blocked single jib sheet (self tacking) to control the height of the tack which is important. I (same as Jim, release the tack and use a sock to tame the chute. It is then hauled down and tucked in a bag as it is lowered into the sail locker.
