Simpson Lawerence Windlass on the fritz!

One week before heading south and my windlass broke during lessons with my crew! Its a Simpson-Lawerence Hyspeed 510 manual windlass. Will not retrieve. After exhausting attempts to free up the action, we pulled it from the deck. Unfortunately oil and rusty water were inside. Yikes. Anyone know how to pull the clutch (made of asbestos? Soft anyway) off of the shaft? Cant get inside any other way. I could be looking at new equipment. I wantbto avoid the cost and headache of going electric.

Re: Simpson Lawerence Windlass on the fritz!

My Hyspeed siezed up on me a few times, but I was able to free it up with WD40 and a lot of banging on it. I cant help you with the internals, but after the second jamming, I sewed a nice cover for the windlass, and never had a problem after that.____Grant.
