'Simple' Sail Repair

being this is my first boat evything is a learning experience


Now that the season in NE is over I need to bring my genny in fro some reapirs. All that it needs is a new wear/protective strip. Would it generally be a lower price to have this done at a local sail/canvas place, or at a bigger sail loft. Seems it would be the dealer verse local shop for car repairs.

Any experience out there between the choices (its a Doyle sail and there is a Doyle loft here, but it seems it is just sewing)

Ask for the quote, ten jump. Worked for Doyle and liked the way they (we) worked.

Take it to a local loft. You'll know where your sail is! Also they need the work over the winter. Any loft can stitch or replace a uv strip.

And any loft can charge you a bucket for it.

Far too long. Can't wait till we get to the Caribbean. If we need something from the USA and the carribbean prices are too high we just load the boat with donuts, beer and pink fizzy drink and sail to Ft Lauderdale.

We are getting some great work done here at great prices, but finding them in amongst the clowns is a real pain.

Sailmakers quotes for UV strip here is about 40% of new sail price in carib.

Replacing the UV strip is an excellent example of something that you can do yourself. The cost savings will pay the bulk (or all) of a new Sailrite sewing machine!
