Shortening an Asym Spinnaker
G'day all!
Could not find prior subject string so posting question.
I have a very nice Assym Spinnaker which I've found is about 2.5 ft. too long for the boat.
Seeking advice if it is feasible to have shortened, where, who, approx. cost?
Thanks a bunch. If there's already posted string would appreciate being pointed.

I'd try a used sail broker like Pineapple Sails. You may be able to trade yours toward one that fits. There are other used brokers such as Bacon.

Re: Shortening an Asym Spinnaker
Is it too long in the sense that when hoisted it hangs down below your toe rail? Or "too long" according to the boat's sail plan's theoretical measurements? As in a good percentage of cases, it's possible to get away with such a sail, unless you're racing, & it has to be legal based on it's measurements. Otherwise, sometimes the extra area is nice to have.

Re: Shortening an Asym Spinnaker
Any sailmaker can do this for you. The corners can be reused and so this is just a plain cut / retape job per hour.
Walk into your local loft, ask for a quote.

It hangs below the toe rail. Managed to fly it in reverse but that's not really kosher.

That's one option but I'd like to keep it if possible.

Normally you would take a strip out of the middle, then re-fair the leech and luff. It is a pretty simple job for someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: Shortening an Asym Spinnaker
Thanks Kestrahl and all: I've found a local sailmaker who's going to shorten the Assym for me.

If you trim the foot the panel layout becomes wrong and you have to rebuild the corner patches.

Re: Shortening an Asym Spinnaker
Trim the foot, only an option in a crosscut bottom section and even then you would have to rebuild the corners. Kestrahls idea is better financially, structurally and longevity wise.
